On 7TH of November, the Municipal Library in Żywiec hosted another meeting of the series 'I am an ambassador of Żywiec City'. The meeting bore the intriguing  theme "Planet Żywiec", and its guest was a discoverer of comets and asteroids Mr Michał Kusiak, citizen of Żywiec City.
Mr Michał Kusiak is a well-known and respected science popularizer, graduate of the astronomy department at the Jagiellonian University,  discoverer of many comets and asteroids, including the most important one for the Żywiec citizens - the asteroid named Żywiec, which was discovered in 2013, and 5 years later – during the of 750th anniversary  of Żywiec City occasion, named as a tribute  for City above  Soła and Koszarawa rivers.
Thanks to that Żywiec City has its own place in the galaxy. According to Mr Michał Kusiak assurances, the surface area of this asteroid is approximately 6.5 square kilometers, which in practice means that the Żywiec City has “increased” its area similarly by Sporysz district.
Large group of  children and youth attended in this meeting. Mr Michał Kusiak encouraged them to start their own adventure with astronomy. He confirmed, that he bought a telescope for observing the stars, planets, comets and asteroids few years ago, although he had been interested in the stars from an early age. At first, he watched the celestial bodies with binoculars, then SLR cameras, and after that with a specialized telescopes.
Thanks to his education, which is also his great hobby, he made friends with Phd Michał Żółtowski,   astronomy enthusiast from Krakow, with whom he discovered almost a thousand asteroids. About 150 of them are already registered, they have a number in Minor Planet Center, an agency operating under the auspices of the International Astronomical Union.
It was a great opportunity to see Jupiter, which was quite visible that day, using a telescope during this meeting.
- “I only regret, that today we did not manage to see Saturn as well, because I was really counting on it," Mr Michał Kusiak said. The participants were simply enchanted with his lecture.
